$2,972.29

Gold Britannia coins are among the highest-regarded gold coins in the market. They hold a £100 denomination and legal tender status fully guaranteed by the Royal Mint and contain 1 oz of 999.9 pure gold. Gold Britannias also carry artistic and historical treasures in their design. 2024 is only the second strike of the new obverse design with King Charles III. On the reverse we see the traditional depiction of Britannia as the motif, the national symbol of pride for centuries.

The Design

Since the second half of 2023, Britannia coins have been displaying a new obverse design with the effigy of King Charles III. His Majesty’s official portrait consists of a left-profile bust created by Martin Jennings. The image is encircled by the “CHARLES III,” the coin’s face value of “100 POUNDS”, the year of issuance, and “D.G.REX.F.D,” which stands for “By the grace of God, King,” in Latin.

The reverse design traditionally displays Britannia, which has been portrayed as the feminine personification of the nation since ancient times. The image is Philip Nathan’s creation dating back to 1987 and depicts Britannia as a warrior with a helmet, a trident, and the Union Jack Shield. The inscriptions on this side refer to the coin’s series, issuance, weight, purity, and metal content through “‘BRITANNIA’ 2024’ 1 oz’ 999.9’ FINE’ GOLD.’”

Security Features

The series’ unique security features are displayed on the coins’ reverse side. Britannia’s trident turns to a padlock on the lower left as you change the angle of view; the waves imprinted in the background gain movement as you move the coin. And the micro-text engravings around the image - “DECUS ET TUTAMEN” is Latin for "An ornament and a safeguard," referring to the Mint’s security measures to protect the coin’s authenticity.
