In 1991, the Mexican Mint introduced the four fractional-ounce coins in the Silver Libertad Series. In addition to the 1/4 oz Libertad, the mint introduced 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/2 oz weights. Five years later, in 1996, 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins were added to the series.
The obverse side of 2023 Mexican Silver Libertad Coins comes with a depiction of the coat of arms of Mexico. The modern seal for the nation depicts a powerful golden eagle locked in battle with a serpent. The two creatures are on the arm of a prickly pear cactus with an oak-and-laurel wreath beneath.
