America’s historic coin designs from the early 20th century are held in high regard among both collectors and investors. While it’s hard to single out one design as the unquestioned best, there is one design that stands out as unquestionably unique. Originally found the gold $2.50 and $5 coins, the Incuse Indian design is one-of-a-kind.

  • Designs created by Bela Lyon Pratt.

Each 1/10 oz GSM Incuse Indian Silver Round from Golden State Mint (GSM) in this listing offers a great alternative to the purchase of pre-1965 silver or other high-priced circulation coins from the early 20th century. The beautiful Incuse Indian coin design is available on these 1/10 oz silver rounds, which ship in either individual flips or tubes of 50 rounds.

The Incuse Indian design was developed by Bela Lyon Pratt around the same time that Augustus Saint-Gaudens was redesigning the $10 Gold Eagle and the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin for President Theodore Roosevelt and the US Mint. Pratt’s design appeared only on the Quarter Eagle and Half Eagle coins and was unique for its incuse striking.

Rather than striking the designs onto the surface of the coins with a raised design field, the US Mint issued the Quarter Eagle and Half Eagle coins with an incuse design. This stamped the design of the Indian and Eagle into the surface of the coins so there was no raised design surface above the coin’s actual surface area.

On the obverse of the 1/10 oz GSM Incuse Indian Silver Round is Pratt’s original 1908 design of the Indian Head coinage. This left-profile portrait features a Native American tribal leader in full headdress with 15 stars around his figure and an engraving of “Liberty” above his head.

The reverse side of the 1/10 oz GSM Incuse Indian Silver Rounds features the eagle design created by Pratt. This eagle is depicted at rest on a collection of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. The bird is surrounding by engravings of the issuing mint, as well as the national motto of the US and the phrase “E Pluribus Unum.”
