The History
The Aztecs governed much of southern Mexico for nearly 200 years. The Aztec Empire ruled from 1345 until 1525, when they were conquered by the Spanish conquistadors. Despite the fact that it has been nearly 500 years, references to the Aztec Empire may be seen in a variety of films, television episodes, and even precious metal designs in Mexican pop culture.
The popular Aztec Calendar design has appeared on silver rounds and bars and is available for purchase in many different sizes. Each of these products is struck by Golden State Mint, a private mint in the U.S. that has been in the business for more than 40 years.
The Design
The obverse face of the 1/10 oz Aztec Calendar Silver Round features a very detailed depiction of the infamous Aztec Calendar Stone. The stone is made up of three intricate rings that depict precise characteristics such as the face of Tonatuih, the Aztec sun god, and how the Aztecs calculated days, weeks, and months.
Cuauhtemoc, the final Aztec emperor, is depicted on the reverse. He is now regarded as one of Mexico's most important icons, as well as a representative of the indigenous peoples of the region. All Silver Aztec calendar items include his distinctive picture. "TENTH TROY OUNCE" is inscribed above, while "999 FINE SILVER" is inscribed below.
