Asahi Liberty Bell 1 oz Silver Round Design Highlights

The obverse of the Asahi Silver Liberty Bell round features a frosted and raised image of the Liberty Bell over a frosted background. The victorious proclamation "LIBERTY" is emblazoned in a banner arched proudly over the dome. The bell divides the numbers "17" and "76", the year of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Three stars and three stripes adorn the body of the cracked bell.

The reverse features a latent image security feature that displays two variations: at one angle, stars and stripes embodied within a larger star. At another angle, a star with a silhouette of a bald eagle is visible. A wreath encircles the points of the large star with a banner announcing "E PLURIBUS UNUM".  The edge of the coin is imprinted with the weight, mint mark, and metal purity: “1 TROY OUNCE,” the Asahi Mint Mark, and “999 FINE SILVER.”

The Liberty Bell, an iconic symbol of American independence, was cast in 1752 in London, England, by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. Originally commissioned for the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, the bell cracked during a test ringing shortly after its arrival in America.

The exact cause of the initial crack remains uncertain, but it's widely believed to have resulted from a flaw in the bell's casting or from being struck too hard during testing. Local craftsmen John Pass and John Stow attempted to repair the bell by widening the crack and adding metal supports, but these efforts were only partially successful.

Despite its crack, the Liberty Bell became a potent symbol of liberty and freedom, particularly during the American Revolution. It was rung to mark significant events, including the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Over the years, the bell underwent several repairs and was even recast twice in an attempt to fix the crack. However, each restoration effort only served to further weaken the bell's structure. Today, the Liberty Bell is on display in Philadelphia, where it continues to inspire visitors with its message of freedom and democracy.
